All this March, we’re taking part in the Sleep Council’s National Bed Month. It’s the perfect excuse for us to chat about one of our favourite hobbies (sleeping), and help you understand the benefits of getting the right bed, so you can get the most out of your sleep.
How a new bed can change your life
We’ll be honest, getting a good night’s sleep won’t turn you into some kind of all-singing all-dancing, happy-go-lucky Julie Andrews figure. But, it should help stop those “someone woke up on the wrong side of bed” comments from people picking up on your cranky attitude. After all, a well-rested you is less likely to burst into tears over a glass of spilt milk.
Did you know you can lose as much as 500ml of body fluid and 400g of dead skin every night? You’re right to feel grossed out. Lying amongst all of this old bacteria can make for a really uncomfortable sleep, and even nasty skin complaints and viruses.
Making a simple, low-cost change like swapping out your mattress for a new one is common sense as far as your hygiene is concerned, but don’t just buy anything. Make sure your new mattress does exactly what you need it to, by choosing one with the right support and features. If you’re not sure what this means for you, we’ve got nearly 20 years experience making and selling mattresses, so just let us know if you need help finding your perfect fit.
You’ll spend 1/3 of your life in bed, so naturally it’s going to wear out over time. From mattress springs erupting like a painful game of Pop-up-Pirate, to beds literally on their last legs, your body ends up not getting the support it needs.
One French clinical study found that people who slept in a new bed versus an old one said they had less disturbed and more refreshing sleep.
So, as hard as it can be, it might be time to put your old bed out to pasture. Don’t feel guilty, though, it had a good run.
